Welcome to the website of the Jersey Gilbert and Sullivan Society. Here you will find information about the Society, forthcoming and past productions and how to become a member. We hope that more will be added as time progresses, providing information both for current members and prospective ones. The Jersey Gilbert and Sullivan Society was founded in 1980 and has as its principal aim the furtherance of the enjoyment of the works of W. S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan. Every year, in May, the Society puts on a full production of one of the operas. The production for 2011 will be The Gondoliers, or The King of Barataria and runs at the Jersey Opera House from Tuesday 24th May to Saturday 28th May 2011. Over the years we have performed in one manner or another all the operas.Although the main emphasis of the Society is to perform and promote Gilbert and Sullivan operettas, the Committee is at liberty to authorise performances of other composers and librettists. These performances have been regarded as the exception rather than the rule as only Cox and Box has been performed under this banner. The May production is not all we do, however. Over the last few years, we have put on concerts of our own; taken part in the Jersey Eisteddfod; and performed by invitation at various events. And, away from the music and dancing, we hold a summer barbecue each year, the main event of our social calendar. 2011 dates for concerts and social events have yet to be finalised but will be advertised on this website in due course.
