The Jersey Gilbert and Sullivan Society

2013

Concert; St. Aubin Methodist Church 26th July 2013

A “wall of sound”, was how one member of the audience described the Society in full voice at Concert held at St. Aubin Methodist Church.

A 40 strong chorus and soloists under the direction of Annette Blanchet, with Hugh Lince on the piano, entertained and delighted a near full house with songs from Ruddigore, The Yeomen of the Guard, Iolanthe,The Sorcerer, H.M.S Pinafore and many others.

Michael Blackie compered the evening and introduced the various songs, putting them into the context of the shows that they came from and some of the background to their composing.

After the Concert, over forty members of the Society and others adjourned to the nearby Bon Viveur Restaurant for an after show meal.  Despite such numbers descending on the Restaurant in one group without having pre-selected the menu choices, the Kitchen managed to serve everyone within a very short space of time and the service and quality of food was superb.

The concert and meal held against the backdrop of the harbour with a full tide on a warm Summers evening. No better place in the world to be!

The photograph above was taken by Dominic Wilson, to whom thanks are extended. Dominic was able to use his remote operated camera set-up on the balcony, operated by him whilst he sang in the chorus.
